Knee Deep Flamingo

I began this piece in a Mark Mehaffey workshop at Kanuga Watercolor in Hendersonville NC in 2015 using watercolor. I initiated it thinking flamingo orange and the complementary color of teal. Using a photo I took at Columbia, SC’s remarkable Riverbanks Zoo, I finally in 2021 developed the painting by lifting the lighter shapes and layering in the darker shapes. I sealed it with spray varnish and negative and positive painted with acrylic paint to complete the composition. It is triple-matted and framed.
