I made this painting to enter into a SC State Fair 2011 special exhibit commemorating icons of the city of Columbia. This boxcar is off Gervais Street in the Vista area adjacent to Adluh Flour. I made the drawing, masked out the letters, and poured/dripped the colors to replicate the weathered red. I removed the masking fluid before the paint dried so it made the irregular edging. I then lifted and added paint to finalize the composition. This painting is one of my all-time favorites because my dad was a fan of all things railroad.
